Sugar-Coated Sundays: Chocolate Banana Milkshake & Cookies

Today's Sunday!  It's the end of another weekend and I think we could all use some sugar to softened the blow.  So welcome to my new series - Sugar-Coated Sundays.  Every Sunday I'll be sharing yummy sweets that I hope will make you smile.  :)

Today I'm going old school.  I remember my dad making three things when I was was little: Fried Potato Pancakes, Velveeta Hamburger Macaroni, and Chocolate Banana Milkshakes.  I love his Chocolate Banana Milkshakes.  They are SO freakin' good.

Well, last week Thing 1 was running a really high fever and feeling pretty cruddy.  So to brighten his day I decided to make him this shake.

I didn't have any chocolate syrup in the house.  I had been wanting to try the chocolate syrup recipe from Glorious Treats, so I did, problem solved.  I dolled up my dad's shake with some whipped cream, banana slices, and chocolate wafer cookies (undipped Thin Mint Knock Offs).

And I had to tell you all, I got the job!!  I'm really excited.  I had interviewed for a few positions.  I got the job I wanted too.  So now when you call Verizon's customer service, be nice.  It might be me.  Haha.

The Best Chocolate Banana Milkshake

Ingredients:
1/4 cup homemade chocolate syrup, plus more for garnish
4 scoops vanilla ice cream
1/3 cup milk
1 ripe banana, sliced
Homemade whipped cream

Directions:
  1. Blend together chocolate syrup, ice cream, milk and banana until smooth.
  2. Pour shake into glass, top with whipped cream.  Garnish with chocolate syrup drizzle, banana slice and 1 chocolate wafer cookie.

Homemade Chocolate Syrup

Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups sugar
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 cup water
dash of salt
1 teaspoon vanilla

Directions:
In a small saucepan, add sugar, cocoa, and salt.  Whisk together gently.  Add water.  Bring mixture to a boil, stirring occasionally.  Reduce heat and cook 1 minute.  Remove from heat and add vanilla.  Cool.  Store in refrigerator.

Homemade Whipped Cream

Ingredients:
1 cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon powdered sugar

Directions:
In a large bowl, whip cream until stiff peaks are just about to form.  Beat in vanilla and sugar; whip until stiff peaks form.  Make sure not to over-beat or cream will become lumpy and butter-like.

Since I had some extra whipped cream and chocolate sauce, I thought I'd make a little cookie sandwich as well.  It's my Chocolate Banana Sandwich Cookie.  Catchy name, huh? These little guys taste great, even if they are a bit messy.  Now you can have your shake and eat it too.  :)
