Ghost Cupcakes

When I was at Joann's spending the highly coveted gift card I won from Kim, I picked up a couple BHG specialty books.  SO happy I did.  I was flipping through the Halloween book and I couldn't help myself when I saw the Halloween cupcake collection.  So here we are. Happy 13 days til Halloween everybody!!!

Ghost Cupcakes
From Better Homes & Gardens

Ingredients:
White cake cupcakes (from box mix)
Black buttercream
Green buttercream

White fondant
Dum Dum lollipop
Pastry bag and #3 tip

Directions:
  1. Frost cupcakes with green buttercream.
  2. Cut half of the stick off your Dum Dum.
  3. Roll out fondant.  {I found thinner is better}  Using a 2" to 3" circle cutter, cut out a fondant circle for each cupcake.
  4. Place to Dum Dum candy in the middle of the fondant circle and gently form the fondant around the lollipop.  Once the lollipop is halfway covered, let the remaining fondant flair out.
  5. Place the ghost on top of the cupcake using the lollipop stick to secure everything.
  6. Pipe the ghost's eyes on using the black buttercream.  Then write "BOO!" in front of the ghost.

I left the cake itself for this cupcake white to contrast the frosting, and since ghosts are white...of course.

Be sure to come back the next couple of days.
I'll be telling you how I made the Witch Cupcakes and Pumpkin Patch Cupcakes.

By the way, I'm totally loving this cupcake stand I got from Pick Your Plum.
It collapses down completely flat.
I just have to figure out what color I'm going to paint it.

  3. Very cute! As someone who has played with fondant a bit (or maybe quite a bit - my sister conned me into doing her wedding cake just this summer!) this is a great starter project, or perhaps a good one to use up some scraps!
