Oreo Truffle Balls

Please tell me you've heard of these wonderfully decadent little bites.  If not, I'm tickled pink to be the one to introduce them to you.  Oreo Truffle Balls, Oreo Balls, Yum...whatever you call them they will be a hit with everyone you know.  I dare you not to eat the filling before you dip them!

{The only thing that kept me from eating the filling was that there were exactly 25.  5 x 5 on the tray.  Perfect.  Yes, I'm a little ODC/perfectionist like that.  It's one of the reasons Mike and I get along so well.}

Oreo Truffle Balls

Ingredients:
1 pkg Oreo cookies
1 - 8oz pkg cream cheese, softened
8oz semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips
2 tablespoons shortening
Sprinkles, optional

Directions:
  1. Crush up Oreo cookies to a fine crumb.  If you have a food processor it would probably come in handy for this.
  2. Mix together crushed Oreos and cream cheese until well blended, scraping bowl as needed.
  3. Roll Oreo mixture into bite sized balls using a 1/2 tablespoon scoop.  Place balls onto a waxed paper lined cookie sheet.
  4. Refrigerate for 1 hour.
  5. Melt chocolate and shortening together over a double boiler.  Stir until chocolate is smooth.
  6. Place 1 Oreo ball onto a fork.  Holding the fork over the chocolate, use a spoon to pour chocolate over the Oreo ball.  Tap the base of the fork tines to knock extra chocolate back into the bowl.
  7. Place coated Oreo ball back onto the cookie sheet.  Add on sprinkles now, before the chocolate sets.  Repeat with remaining balls.  Refrigerate at least 1 hour to set chocolate.  Keep refrigerated until ready to serve.
