{The only thing that kept me from eating the filling was that there were exactly 25. 5 x 5 on the tray. Perfect. Yes, I'm a little ODC/perfectionist like that. It's one of the reasons Mike and I get along so well.}
Oreo Truffle Balls
Ingredients:
1 pkg Oreo cookies
1 - 8oz pkg cream cheese, softened
8oz semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips
2 tablespoons shortening
Sprinkles, optional
Directions:
- Crush up Oreo cookies to a fine crumb. If you have a food processor it would probably come in handy for this.
- Mix together crushed Oreos and cream cheese until well blended, scraping bowl as needed.
- Roll Oreo mixture into bite sized balls using a 1/2 tablespoon scoop. Place balls onto a waxed paper lined cookie sheet.
- Refrigerate for 1 hour.
- Melt chocolate and shortening together over a double boiler. Stir until chocolate is smooth.
- Place 1 Oreo ball onto a fork. Holding the fork over the chocolate, use a spoon to pour chocolate over the Oreo ball. Tap the base of the fork tines to knock extra chocolate back into the bowl.
- Place coated Oreo ball back onto the cookie sheet. Add on sprinkles now, before the chocolate sets. Repeat with remaining balls. Refrigerate at least 1 hour to set chocolate. Keep refrigerated until ready to serve.
